Pottery Wheel Classes

Taster Throwing Sessions

Always wanted to try throwing on the pottery wheel? Why not come to a taster throwing session?

Usually held once a month on either a Saturday morning or a Friday night. £25 per person. (booking required).

Each session starts with a demonstration on how to throw a pot. Then its your turn, it's that simple. You will get lots of help and guidance throughout.

Each person will have unlimited balls of clay to work with and we aim to have two good pots to be proud of by the end of your session.

You then get to choose what colour glaze you would like your two pots to be. We dry, turn and glaze your creations and they will be ready to collect in 2 weeks.

Private Bookings

If you want to have some one to one teaching, are part of a club or group, or just some friends or family that want to try throwing on the wheel for the first time together, then you can book a private throwing session!

Just call to book in.

6 people max throwing at a time.

Children and adults welcome, price depends on how many people.

Beginner classes

Classes usually run for four weeks on Tuesday nights and Thursday nights, from 7:30pm for two hours.

Our courses are limited to 6 people ( less at the moment due to covid ) in order to provide you with sufficient tutor support, so that you can learn the best methods and techniques from the start, and avoid bad habits.

Beginners courses are for those completely new to the pottery wheel and those with some experience who just want a refresher class.

Generally we focus on the basic cylinder form to start with, then progress through to making lots of different items. Though content may vary depending on the students abilities, I try to make sure everyone has a selection of different functional items that they are proud of.

Booking is essential. Please contact me to book or to be put on the waiting list. Keep an eye on Facebook for the latest dates. A 50% deposit is needed to secure a place. All materials, clay and kiln firings included, no extra charges!

Pottery Workshop

Intermediate Classes

Once you have mastered centring and throwing basic cylinders, we will move on to more complicated throwing techniques. For example, vases, swollen bellies into narrow flared tops and making hand pulled handles, and attaching them. Defining and perfecting everything until you are equipped with the knowledge to continue.

Please contact me for further information.

Please Note

We are sorry but missed sessions cannot be made up at other times. This is because other courses may be full, may be delivered by a different teacher and may be covering different techniques or activities.

Please also be aware that sometimes clay fired items can break or be damaged in the kiln. We try to control these events but it is not always possible. It is part of the charm but also frustration of working with ceramics. If you have lost your pot in the kiln in this way we will offer you a spare or a replacement.

Please keep an eye on our latest news page or on facebook for dates and times of up coming classes
